SCALP BIOPSY
A scalp biopsy is a simple outpatient procedure used to help diagnose the underlying causes of hair loss and scalp conditions. Performed under local anesthesia, it involves removing a small sample of scalp tissue, which is then examined under a microscope to assess the health of hair follicles and surrounding structures. This diagnostic tool is especially useful when visual inspection and patient history alone are not enough to determine the cause of hair thinning or shedding. In some cases, additional tests such as blood work may be recommended to check for hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, or autoimmune conditions. During a consultation, your provider may also ask detailed questions about your hair loss history, styling habits, family background, and overall health. Together, these steps help create a clearer picture of what’s happening beneath the surface and guide the most effective treatment plan.
